PTA-like group just for dads exemplifies parental involvement in students’ success
Dallas, Texas (October 13, 2011) – Dads at Uplift Education’s Hampton Preparatory in Southwest Dallas are challenging the stereotype that dads are less involved in children’s education. The group will host “A Night in Hollywood” on October 30 at Buttons Jazz Café in Desoto to raise funds to support senior class activities for the school. The event is open to the public.
Event: A Night in Hollywood
When: October 30, 2011 at 7 p.m.
Where: Buttons Jazz Café (2909 E Pleasant Run Rd., Desoto)
Tickets: $35/person, contact Henry Wilson at 972-421-1982 ext 2355
The ‘Men of Hampton’ is a PTA-like group just for dads who want to help support the success of Hampton Preparatory and its students. The group meets monthly to plan fundraisers and coordinate activities to support the school. Hampton Prep’s Parent Liaison, Henry Wilson, who coordinates efforts that promote student and parent involvement in the school, heads the group and encourages parent volunteerism throughout the year.
“One of our goals this year at Hampton Prep is to increase the positive energy at our school,” said Senior Director Corey Harris. “The Men of Hampton and the Parent Liaison position are part of that effort. All of our parents commit to making an annual volunteer effort through the school, and the Men of Hampton is one way that dads can fulfill that commitment while also strengthening our school culture and supporting our overarching goal for 100 percent college acceptance.”
